For example installation of a condensation boiler, of motion sensors, triple glazing and energy efficient lighting in the entire hotel. The Radisson Blu Resort Gran Canaria features a roof filled with 125 solar panels or more than 1 tennis court of renewable energy!

The Park Inn Heathrow has undertaken a huge task to change all the light bulbs in the 900 bedroom hotel to long life energy saving light bulbs. This project alone results in a reduction of 948,761 kWh of electricity per year.

Located in the heart of the city, this hotel has quite a challenge from an energy management point of view with their large covered atrium. The hotel significantly reduced energy consumption by continuously optimising the building management system, installing frequency regulators for the elevators, installing a high tech lighting control system and LED lights.

Radisson Blu Sandton, South Africa

The Radisson Blu Hotel Sandton achieves 25% electricity saving by a Lighting Switch-Over. In the process the hotel changed all 12V downlights to LEDs. In total the technical team changed 3834 lightbulbs in the lobby, guest corridors, restaurants, back of house and guestrooms. Through a partnership with the local energy provider, Eskom, half of the project was subsidised.

The brand-new Park Inn by Radisson Tete benefits from its sunny location – getting sun 365 days a year – to heat all the sanitary water of the hotel by 2 banks of solar panels – that's 100% renewable energy. At the same time the hotel preserves its environment by treating wastewater on site and reusing grey water for garden irrigation.

The team at the Radisson Blu Tala Bay Resort, Aqaba, set to work to create a bio-garden. When planting the garden they involved guests' children in a ‘Trees & Vegetables Planting day'. The thriving garden officially opened last March. Guests can now enjoy a wide range of organically grown herbs and vegetables in the hotel's SLOW (sustainable, local, organic and wholesome) cuisine.

As a Green Key eco-labelled hotel all toilets are flushed with rainwater collected on the roof of the hotel saving 6 litres of water per flush or about 608,000 litres of fresh water per year. All these ventilation controls combined generate a saving of 3 million kWh/year or 700 tonnes of CO2.

The Radisson Blu Hotel Leeds saved a remarkable 23% of energy by closely monitoring the work of contractors and performing preventive maintenance.

All installations related to Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning were optimized, controls and temperature sensors checked. The hotel's increased focus on its preventive maintenance program guarantees the guests' comfort and adds a few percentages of energy savings.

With many small steps the Park Inn by Radisson Sheremetyevo Airport realized energy savings of 12% per occupied room. By regularly training staff, tenants and contractors and a daily walk-around of the technical team improvement possibilities could be spotted. Some of which include the thermal insulation of windows and door openings, motion sensors in staircases and guest floors and using the heat generated by equipment.

The team of the Radisson Blu Hotel Stansted Airport took a closer look at the existing technical equipment in the hotel and achieved 21% energy savings by optimizing the settings and focussing onpreventative maintenance. Essential to the optimization process is the update to the Building Management software to refine controls and automatically adjust to the outside temperature.

Radisson Blu Hotel Latvija Riga

The Radisson Blu Hotel Riga achieved savings of 7% by adding sun protection to windows in the Lobby, bar, restaurant and selected rooms. Additionally they improved their thermal insulation of meeting room floors and are recovering heat produced by chillers for hot water preparation. They further optimized the settings of the Building Management system and of the intelligent kitchen ventilation, achieving bigger savings with a small investment.

Radisson Blu Hotel Marseille, France

In its Solaris restaurant the Radisson Blu Hotel Marseille serves food prepared with induction cooking, one of the investments leading to the 16% savings in energy consumption. Additionally the hotel installed energy saving LED lighting in all public areas and pays very close attention to the right Think Planet energy saving practices in daily operations.

Park Inn by Radisson Poliarnie Zori Murmansk, Russia

Reminding all members of staff about the Think Planet objectives by putting up stickers with information in the staff areas and offices was one way the Park Inn by Radisson Murmansk achieved energy savings of 8%.

Simply renewing the window seals also made an excellent contribution to better insultation and energy savings in this frosty climate.

Radisson Blu Hotel Media City, Dubai

The Radisson Blu Hotel Media City in Dubai's beautiful façade lighting and very visible Radisson Blu sign entirely runs on LED lights. The hotel boasts the first eco-roundabout – irrigated by A/C condensation water and lit by solar lights. Tuning guestroom air-conditioning in function of the guest's presence and full staff awareness managed to reduce the hotel's carbon footprint by an impressive 15% from 2009-2011 and achieve additional 3.5% savings since 2012.

Radisson Blu Royal Viking Stockholm, Sweden

The Radisson Blu Royal Viking Hotel in Stockholm has always been very switched on in matters of energy management. Since 2011 they have achieved a 10,5% energy saving by installing new controls for the district heating, using excess heat from the air-conditioning to heat hot water and installing intelligent kitchen ventilation systems. They also use the cool Stockholm climate to their full advantage and use free cooling with outside air when the temperature drops below 5°C.

Radisson Blu Hotel Nice

Radisson Blu Hotel Nice has achieved a staggering 42% reduction in kWh/m² since 2011 through a combined investment program which involved: replacement of a boiler to an efficient condensing boiler, installation of the Sprinx Cheetah variation kitchen ventilation system, LED installation program which has seen 600 LEDs placed in public areas and corridors, chiller replacement and optimization of the cooling tower, optimization of building controls and energy management and monitoring.

Radisson Blu Hotel Tromso

Radisson Blu Hotel Tromso is a 269 room hotel in the very north of Norway. The hotel saved 1.1million kWh of energy since 2011 which equates to 23% of its energy consumption per square meter. One action they took is new controls for pavement heating.

Radisson Blu Portman Hotel London

Radisson Blu Portman Hotel London has achieved 30% energy savings per square meter since 2011. The hotel has also successfully tested a retrofit of wireless room controls. The controls sense when the room is empty and reduces room air-conditioning to an eco-level.

Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel Oslo

The 500-room Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel Oslo has done a massive LED installation as part of a building optimization project with Siemens Building Technologies. Since 2011 the hotel replaced 6,100 lights with LEDs.

Opened in late 2014, the Radisson Blu Sheremetyevo has installed high-efficiency LED or compact fluorescent lighting in almost every area of the hotel. Façade lighting is led and controlled by a daylight sensor. The lights in all guest corridors are equipped with motion sensors.

Rejected desalination water is used to fill the fishpond at the Radisson Blu El Quseir. The hotel takes the ‘raw’ water from a ground well which then goes through a desalination plant. Each day, 300 to 600 cubic meters of water is reused and filtered through ponds before being fed back into the sea.

Radisson Blu Sharjah

Radisson Blu Sharjah has reduced water use by 20% by re-using 100% grey water for irrigation. The water is deployed through an in soil irrigation system waters the roots of plants, avoiding evaporation.
